Église Notre Dame de Lorette

2011 Nov 8 DSC_0939

Église Notre Dame de Lorette

The construction of this grand church was started in 1823 under the reign of Louis XVIII and was completed in 1836 under Louis-Philippe.  The elaborate murals were painted directly on the walls and one can see sections which are being restored.  Considered too modern, too bright with gas lighting, the walls are entirely covered with designs and painting.

ce sont des noms qui chantent dans ma tête. Mon Dieu, encore tellement de chose à voir à Paris. en France, en Suisse, dans le monde. A y perdre son latin.

Stunning ceiling! I suppose all the more so because of the light streaming in from the clerestory?

With eyes cast down, I begin at the chairs neatly arranged in rows ... Then slowly raise my view and marvel at the columns, the arches, the murals ... and, finally, the ceiling! What a marvelous work of art! Bon dimanch a tout le monde. Que tes yeux soient levées dès aujourd'hui!

Magnifique! I love how every church is special in Paris, even those out of the way ones, not on the tourist trail, probably especially those.

That ceiling and the arches are awesome. My goodness the churches were wealthy.
